Not Sure Where to Begin?
We’ll Guide You Through Your Solar Journey
What is a solar panel?
A solar panel is a device that converts sunlight into electricity. The energy produced can be used to power your home, office, or business.
How much electricity does a solar system generate?
It depends on the system size (kW) and sunlight availability. On average, a 1kW system generates about 4–5 units of electricity per day.
How much kW solar system do I need for my home?
Most homes require between 2kW to 6kW, depending on your monthly electricity usage.
Is there any government subsidy for solar systems?
Yes, the Indian government offers subsidies under MNRE schemes for residential solar installations. We assist you in the entire subsidy process.
What is the lifespan of a solar panel system?
Solar panels usually last around 25 years. Inverters and batteries may need replacement earlier, but regular maintenance helps increase their lifespan.
Is a battery required with the solar system?
If you're installing an off-grid system, a battery is needed. For grid-tied systems, batteries are optional unless you want backup power during outages.
How much space is required for a solar system?
Around 60 sq. ft. per 1kW is needed. The panels are usually installed on rooftops or open spaces.
How do I maintain a solar panel system?
Very little maintenance is needed. Cleaning the panels every 15–30 days and doing a system check once a year is usually enough.
Will my electricity bill become zero with solar?
If you install a solar system that matches your energy needs, your bill can be reduced to near zero with proper net metering.
Do I need any permissions to install a solar system?
Yes, for grid-connected systems, net metering approval is required from the local electricity board. We help you with this process.
How much does a solar panel system cost?
Costs vary by size and type. Typically, prices range from ₹45,000 to ₹65,000 per kW (approximate).
Will I still be connected to the electricity grid?
Yes. With net metering, your solar system and grid work together. Extra energy generated is sent to the grid, and you get credits on your bill.
What is an off-grid solar system?
An off grid solar system is also known as a stand alone solar system. It works independently from the grid.
Solar panels turn sunlight into electricity and a charge controller distributes that electricity to run household appliances during the sunshine hours and simultaneously charges the batteries when there’s extra power.
The stored energy in the batteries is then used to keep the house running at night
What is the drawback of off-grid system in solar electric power?
Its cost is its major drawback. The off grid solar system price with batteries is between ₹85-100/ watt peak. And the installation cost breaks even in about 6-7 years.
How does an off-grid solar system work?
Here’s the simplest explanation of how an off grid solar system for home works:
- Off grid solar panels absorb and trap sunlight, converting it into direct current (DC)
- The DC current goes into a combiner box
- From the combiner box, it goes into the solar charge controller
- The charge controller gives current to the batteries and charges them
- The charge controller also communicates with the off grid solar inverter
- The off grid inverter converts DC power into AC power
- Most off grid solar inverters nowadays have built-in battery management systems
- Finally, the solar inverter passes the AC current to the load
What is an on-grid solar system?
An on-grid solar system, as the name suggested, is grid-tied. It uses a net meter (bidirectional meter) to transfer bulk units of electricity generated by the solar system during the day. The same meter also imports units from the grid.
The benefit of an on-grid system is that if you need more electricity than your solar system produces, you can use the electricity from the grid.
How does an on-grid system work?
The working of an on-grid system is quite simple:
- Solar panels churn electricity from sunlight.
- The electricity from the solar panels is in the form of DC power.
- The DC power is supplied to a solar inverter.
- The solar inverter converts the DC power into AC power.
- AC power is used to run all appliances.
- The extra power that the solar panels produce during the daytime is transferred to the grid via a net meter.
- When the solar panels aren’t producing electricity at night, the transferred units are imported to keep the house running.
Which is best - on-grid or off-grid solar system?
If you reside in urban cities that have a reliable electricity grid, an on-grid system is the best.
If you reside in rural areas where there’s no grid, an off-grid solar system is the only option.
